Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
June 24th: Newmarket
6f Maiden Fillies'
  • Owner bred by Cheveley Park and the trainer has raced the dam and the siblings.
  • Good sire has just an average record with 2yos and they tend to be better for development from mid-season. The wins usually start from late June onwards and over 7f+. He has not had a 6f winner in the last two seasons. This is his second runner of the season witht he first looking a typical 7f+ type and lacking pace over 6f.
  • Dam an expensive US sales buy finished second on May 29th debut over 5f (to Blue Duster) for the same trainer. Won the Lowther Stakes 4TO after finishing second three times. She has produced a variety of types at stud with a precocious 5f 2yo to Caerleon through to a 10f+ 3yo to Rainbow Quest.
  • Fourth runner of the 2yo season for a major trainer after a 'sighter' in a May 23rd race and two similar debuts here last week.
  • He has a very consistent strategy and record. Roughly 60 2yos run each season and about 20 of them win at a 20% strike rate. Most will only run once or twice and will be targeted at maiden wins. A few will run in Listed+ races.
  • Runners are usually fit and competent on debut and the better ones can place and win. FTO SPs are not well correlated with performance nor overall ability. However, a longer SP (16/1+) is a pretty sure sign of a moderate runner.
  • The earliest debuts are a mix of natural useful 2yos and limited owner breds. His early debuts are often poor value. In 2003 the first four debuts started at odds-on and one won. In total his first ten 2yo debuts in the period 2002-4 have produced 4 wins from 30 runners at low SPs.
  • In summary an interesting pedigree mixture but ought to produce an above average 2yo. Trainer is 1 from 4 with the dam and three siblings on debut (although the dam might have won FTO but for a D Loder 'revved up' Blue Duster). He is due a better debut and this is the sort that ought to be one but even they tend to be placers rather than winning.  Profile [72]
