May 5th: Folkestone
5f Maiden |
Made a solid price at the Doncaster St Leger sales. A small increase on
his price as a foal.
Reviewed at the sales and rated 65 with an above average chance of being
competitive at 2yo. He was small, somewhat lengthy and short with medium
build. He looked capable of rating 65-70 without having strong scope.
By a fourth season sire who made a solid start in 2002 with 2yos and can
get early 5f winners. His record has declined in the common way in the
last two seasons as he has had less chances. He has had one good debut
run from two 2yos in 2005.
The dam showed just over 70 form winning over 7f at 2yo. She has produced
two 2yos that have rated lower than this at 2yo.
Small trainer had his first two 2yo runners in 2004. These both made late
May debuts and were professional and close to their best ratings FTO.
He has run four 2yos already in 2005, the best three of these have been
3rd (66/1), 2nd (16/1) and 4th (25/1 to 16/1) in similar races to this
one.
The trainer runs two here and this is probably the first string with the
other being a moderate type and made the only poor debut by one of his
2yos so far.
In summary a profile that strongly points to a 70ish rated sprint 2yo at
best. The trainer is developing an interesting record and this runner is
likely to be competitive to a high level within his overall ability here.

May 20th: Bath
5.7f Maiden |
14/1 4th favourite on debut in a race with a strong odds odd favourite.
Given an aggressive ride and set a good pace for 4F before being headed
by the favourite. Kept on but slightly faded and the outpaced runners came
back to him. Estimate [64]
Trainer's runners have shown variable improvement but those showing higher
levels tended to miss the break. This one was fully professional FTO. Steps
up to 5.7f. Profile [70]

June 4th: Epsom
6f Listed |
4/1 at Bath and a professional performance. Tracked the leader by a length
at halfway, led 2f out and kept on well to win slightly comfortably from
a newcomer and responding 1f out when asked to ensure the win.
Estimate [74]
Steps up to 6f. Trainer had a runner go finish 3rd in the National Stakes
6 days ago and seems to get his sprinters very fit in early season. Has
front run and should be prominent early. But limited improvement overall.
