May 21st: Haydock
6f Fillies' Maiden |
Made a highish price at the Tattersalls part 1 sales and a reasonable increase
on the retained foal level.
Reviewed at sales and rated 70. Above average size and just average build.
Typical taller, slightly narrow and a little gawky type of the sire. Lengthy
and notably mature in front.
Third season sire made excellent start in 2003 with 2yos with a lot of
winners and plenty of quality. 2004 was a real step back with less
runners and just 7 average to moderate winners. 2005 likely to be closer
to 2004 than 2003.
Sire ok for 6f and winners tend to be from May onwards but with a poor
debut win record.
Dam showed average form at 2yo in a single run in November but showed little
at 3-4yo, retiring early in her 4yo year after trying the AW. She has produced
one useful 2yo who sold for only 4k from 6 previous foals.
Good, reliable trainer targets a maiden win with 2yos in the first three
runs. The better types will then run in conditions+ races and a few in
nurseries.
He does not target strong debut runs and the FTO wins tend to come along
with the best 2yos. Consider in 2003 that 7 of his first 10 2yos runners
won on debut. This wasn't a 'plan' as such but a year when he had a lot
of good 2yos. Six of those 7 have rated over 90 in their careers.
The debut wins tend to come in the period May to June and are often in
the North or Midlands. This is related to the fact that his earliest debuts
each season are a mix of his best and most precocious 2yos, sprinkled with
a few duff ones (often owner breds). The best ones win on debut in this
period
He has had one 2yo run so far who overcame inexperience to win on debut
and looks one of his better types. The other debut was the fittest 2yo
B2yoR has seen this season but ran poorly from a bad draw at Windsor at
20/1.
In summary ought to be one of the trainer's better debuts although not
obviously 90k of value at the sales and may not develop far. Profile
