April 11th: Declared for
Southwell 5f Auction |
Retained at sales for just above the minimum price at the weaker Doncaster
sales.
Minor, little used sire but capable of getting early 5f winners at a low
level (this trainer won with Smokincanon on April 6th at Lingfield in 2004
for example).
Dam was a poor quality winner at 5yo. Has produced an unraced 2yo to the
same sire.
Trainer used to get 2yos ready and professional on debut and better ones
could win. Normally enters runners in suitable races.
On the evidence of 2005 he does not get his debut runners as fit &
ready as he did up to 2002. Only one of the 10 debuts in 2005 has placed
when a better type won a muddling Yarmouth race. However the stable is
in slightly better form after a poor start to the season. Profile

April 21st: Bath
5f Claimer |
33/1 outsider of 6 on AW debut. Ran above expectations to be prominent
to a furlong out and finished third in a race where some other runners
underperformed. Estimate [51]
Trainer won this ace in 2003 with a STO runner and had the third &
fourth in 2004.
The stable's main 5lb apprentice has gone to Beverley on the day of this
race and rides a 2yo in a claimer there. A different apprentice rode this
runner on debut.
Second topweight in this claimer and receives 3lb from the topweight but
gives between 4lb to 17lbs to the other runners. Profile [52 + 3 = 55]

May 16th: Edinburgh
5f Auction |
He was withdrawn from the Bath race on April 21st. Ran in an AW claimer
at Wolverhampton on May 9th ridden by his normal 5lb apprentice. In a weak
race he received some support as 5/2f as others drifted. He pressed the
pace (by a length) until into the straight where he went right-handed and
4-5 horses off the bend. The winners of the 2yo races on that card both
made the pace on the rail and went clear along the rail in the straight.
Those horses that went centre track showed no progress and most faded in
the straight. He followed that pattern. Estimate [25]
Performed below expectations at Wolverhampton and switches to the turf
and to an Auction race. He again wears the cheekpieces that the trainer
uses with his claimer types in later runs.
The trainer has had two runner at the course in 2003-4 and neither has
placed at 5/1 & 12/1. His first run still looks solid form and he has
minor excuses for his Wolverhampton run if you want ot search for them.
Not necessarily a good sign that he is sent here. Profile [48
