April 25th: Windsor
5f Auction Fillies |
Made reasonable price at the Tattersalls part 2 sales. Most expensive filly
in the race.
Second season sire made average start with 2yos in 2004. The earliest debuts
over 5f tended to be limited types. He got 5f winners although the better
types won from mid-season.
Dam was unraced and has a sprint pedigree.
Major trainer does not target strong debut runs and FTO wins come along
with the better types. He has made a slow start to 2005 with 2 wins. The
debut runs have been typical but lacking the final 'edge' that would make
them competitive to win.
He regularly introduces 2yos at Windsor. In 2005 he ran 12 2yos on debut
here and only the best won (Cornus), four others placed at SPs between
3/1 to 9/1. He has run 3 fillies in this race in the last 2 seasons, two
were seller level and on a 70+ winner (started 7/2jf and possibly for the
same owners).
He runs two and this one has R Hughes riding.
In summary a solid pedigree to be a sprint winner as a 2yo and one of the
better types in the field on this. Likely to be lacking the final edge
and joint topweight in a group with only a 4lb range. Drawn 4 of 16 and
a probable disadvantage. Ought to make first 4 to 6 but would need to be
above average to win given the other factors. Profile [60]

May 13th: York
6f Fillies' Listed |
8/1 to 7/1 on debut (trainers other runner at 8/1) in a weak race overall
with no strong favourite. Field went far side on the softer ground so she
was well drawn 4. Led 2f out and clear at 1f out and kept on well.
Estimate [68]
An above average debut by trainer standards but no 'hype' beforehand. Trainer
has only had one winning filly. The runner-up to her was a solid winner
in a minor race at Wolverhampton since. Difficult to place but should show
usual improvement by a trainer runner at least. Profile [79]

May 30th: Sandown
5f Listed |
11/4 favourite at York on softer ground. The race had an average pace with
the first two home in the first three by the end of the first furlong.
Broke well and settled third. 1L off the leaders at halfway and travelling
ok. Field closed up towards 2F out and she moved forward to second and
challenged Bow Bridge as the race quickened. This pair got into a duel
for the last furlong and beaten a short head. None of the other runners
were able to make notable ground in the '2f sprint' at the end of the race.
Estimate [80]
She probably vies with Green Pride at the best early sprint 2yo he has
(8 individual winners so far). With two extra Listed races in 2005 before
this one both have already run in Listed races. She again receives weight
here which should help but looks smaller type and vulnerable to bigger,
development 2yos. Profile [80 + 5 = 85]
