April 2nd: Declared
for Kempton 5f
Maiden |
Made solid price for TO2 and for sire.
Second season sire who showed more speed as a 2yo than his pedigree promised
(trained by M Channon who is notable for getting 5-6f wins with 'pedigrees'
that other trainers would not).
Made a below average start with his 2yos in 2004 with only 7 winners and
no real quality. The wins covered the range 5.7f (uphill) to 10f and he
had no 5f winner. He did not have a winner before June 30th (trained by
his old friend M Channon) which was at 7f.
Dam has an 8f+ pedigree and made a later season 7f debut at 2yo before
winning over 12f at 2yo.
The trainer targets 2yo racing and usually gets a group of 2yos ready for
early season and the best compete well on debut.
2005 has already been a standout year for the trainer with 4 2yos runners
having produced 4 wins (3 on debut) and a close second place from 5 runs.
He clearly has a good group of 2yos and has them well forward.
The trainer entered four 2yos in the first race of the season and they
have made his excellent start to the season. This one was not one of those
four and this is probably his first entry.
In summary a pedigree which does not say '5f winner' and certainly not
in early April. The start made by the trainer and the choice of this one
to run early is clearly an interesting decision. However, they can't all
be good and he has to run a moderate to duff one sometime. SP and evidence
of support or not should be informative. Profile [59]

April 2nd: Kempton
Post Race |
Opened 5/2jf and finished as 5/2f as Cool Creek drifted and support for
Getbuzzin brought him in to 11/4.
He has a non-5f pedigree but did not have to show 5f pace to win this race
run in a slow time.
His trainer has his runners notably ready early in the season in 2005 and
this was his fourth debut win (and one second) from five runners.
With Cool Creek not performing to his best following a slow break and being
hampered he only had to perform to expectations for a comfortable win.
His trainer said "he's more of a 6f mid-season prospect" after the race.
The [Estimate] of 64 is on the generous side given the slow
time.

April 29th: Nottingham
5f Novice |
The trainer has run his other two debut winners in Conditions races and
runs this one in a Novice. He has an 8lb penalty for that win. Despite
winning comfortably he did not have to show 5f pace on debut and his trainer
said he saw him as a better 6f prospect. The only reasonable opponent in
his debut race lost 5 lengths+ in a chaotic run.
Trainer's STO runners have shown variable improvement.
In summary still not proven as a 5f type and with a stiff penalty. Estimate
around 7lb improvement. Profile [72 - 8 = 64]

April 29th: Nottingham
Post Race |
Steady around 15/8 second favourite and carrying an 8lb penalty for a win
in a slow 5f race. Broke ok and settled third and travelled well enough
and 2 lengths off the pacemaker at halfway. Hung left as the pace quickened
and probably outpaced but got organised and responded quite well to be
going forward in the last half furlong and picking up Amber Glory. Ran
above expectations although not looking suited to a fast(er) 5f and solid
promise for better at 6f. Estimate [74]

May 13th: Nottingham
6f Novice |
His second in a 5f Novice here last time, giving weight, looks solid form
and he looked capable of better over 6f. Penalised 7lb for his win.
Profile [82 -7 = 75]

May 27th: Pontefract
6f Conditions |
85/40 second favourite at Nottingham. Race was run at an average pace and
turned into a '2f sprint'. Around half a length of the lead at halfway
and well placed for the sprint. Made an effort as the race quickened 2f
out and made only around a length progress over Getbuzzin and narrowly
lead in the final furlong. However easily outpaced late in the race by
Zato who took longer to get into stride. Estimate [76]
Trainer has only run one in the race in the peiod 2002-4 when he won the
2003 race with his best 2yo Cop Hill Lad. This runner has looked lower
quality but could still improve for a stronger pace 6f and possibly for
this stiffer track. However, he has always adopted a tracking policy so
is reliant on others to set the pace and has shown just average finishes
in 2f sprints. [The trainer and/or jockey have adopted this policy with
all the trainer's 2yos and none have front run.]
Gives 2-4lb to the other winners in the race. Profile [79]
