May 14th: Newbury
6f Maiden - Div I |
Made a middling price at the Doncaster St Leger sales.
Second season sire had only 3 UK 2yos run in 2004. He has had three moderate
to poor 2yo runners so far in 2005.
Dam has a mixed pedigree and is quite well related. She was unraced and
neither of her first two foals have run.
Major trainer does not target FTO wins and they tend to come along with
better types. He has made a slow start to 2005 but has now had four winners
and the recent debuts have been solid while lacking the final 'edge'. He
has had one FTO winner in a weak Windsor race.
Overall the trainer tends to run average or better types at the course,
especially in the first half of the season.
Trainer has run five in the race in 2002-4 producing a winner and two seconds.
The market has not been always been a good indicator of the likely abilities
of his runners. In 2004 his runner at 66/1 was a strong second and won
a Listed race next time. In 2003 the 8/1 preferred was the disappointing
Farewell Gift who finished second in a muddling race. He was still trying
to break his maiden as a 3yo while the 20/1 second string won two races
at 2yo.
In summary interesting that the trainer chooses him to run in this race
given his record. Likely to be a development debut though. Profile [69]
