April 2nd: Declared
for Kempton 5f
Maiden |
Made a solid price for TO2 sales.
By second season sire that made an acceptable start with the 2004 2yos.
These included 5f winners out of stout dams. However he did not have any
runners until May 2nd and no winner until May 27 in 2004.
Sire has had one poor runner so far in 2005.
Dam has 8f+ pedigree but with hints of quality. Won over 10f as a 3yo.
Trainer does not target FTO wins and those that win on debut are normally
his best runners (or targeted debuts for specific owners).
Trainer has had five debut runs in 2005 with a mix of competent and inexperienced.
He has had two debut wins, one by a probable 'natural' in a weak race and
one by a better type for one of his 'specific' owners (Jaber Abdullah).
She has produced good quality with her foals, although not recently, and
they have tended to need 7f+.
The other three debts have been one place in a seller by a physical type
that was better than the others in the race and two unplaced who never
got into their races.
The trainer had the 2nd in 2002 with newcomer for J Abdullah, won in 2003
with superior debut for Sheikh Mohammed runner, but no runner in 2004 but
Sheikh Mohammed newcomer with J Gosden won.
In summary an interesting early runner for the trainer. The sales price
and the dams recent record suggest not superior and possibly not useful.
The pedigree would also suggest 6f+ is needed but the trainer will try
5f with suitable types whatever their pedigree. The trainer tends to use
the early Kempton maidens for 75+ rating winners (at least) although this
owner would not count as one of his 'important' ones. Possibly a smaller
but ready type and paddock review would be informative. Profile

April 2nd: Kempton
Post Race |
Drifted from 7/2 to 4/1 as fourth favourite. Travelled ok on the outside
before a solid fade from before the last furlong.
The trainer has now had 6 debut runs in 2005, 3 have placed including two
winners and three have been unplaced and disappointing. All six of these
runners have started at between 2/1 to 11/2 and picking out the good 'vibes'
from those with little expected of them is, as usual, difficult.

June 7th: Salisbury
6f Auction |
Returns after more than two months off and steps up to 6f. Interesting
to speculate why he had the early run. The first 9 debuts of which he was
one were a variety of types and six have proved to be moderate. Two have
been winners, one useful. Which leaves this one to categorise. Clearly
he wasn't suited to 5f but showed little natural talent although the earliest
debuts included the useful runner who ran poorly. Difficult
to place. Profile [62 + 4 = 66]

June 16th: Newbury
6f Maiden c&g |
12/1 at Salisbury in a moderate to average Auction race. Tracking the pace
by 2L after a furlong and 3L at halfway. Faded from before 1f out to 7th.
Estimate [55]
Second run almost a debut but not really showing enough to suggest he's
a maiden winner. Trainer runs two in a race he has used for moderate to
average types in the last two years. Profile [64]

July 3rd: Brighton
7f Auction |
10/1 at Newbury with a 3lb apprentice. 2L off the lead after 1f and 3L
at halfway. Slightly outpaced before some progress before 1f out and plugging
on in 4th in the last furlong. The wrong side of a gap from the first 3
who were all newcomers. Estimate [55]
Topweight in this Class 6 auction race which the trainer has used for 65-73
rated 7f+ types in the last two years and this one looks similar. In effect
dropped in class to see whether he can win a moderate race before moving
to nurseries. Profile [62]
