April 18th: Windsor
5f Maiden |
Made lowish price at the Tattersalls part 2 sales.
Reviewed at the sales and small and lightly built and had been over-prepared
for the sales. Looked to be a limited type that might rate into the 60s
early but lacked development potential.
Sire has reasonable record with 2yos although signs of it slightly declining
after a very good start. Can produce early 5f winners but as a general
rule they tend to develop and win from May onwards. The 3 wins before May
in 2003-4 have been split as two by the useful La Cucharacha and one in
a poor, draw affected race at Beverley.
He has had one minor 5f winner so far in 2005.
Dam has 'all speed' pedigree but of moderate quality. She showed poor form
at any distance but has produced a 60s rated sprint 2yo.
Major trainer does not target FTO wins and they tend to come along with
better types. He has made a slow start to 2005 but has now had two winners.
Trainer often uses this course to introduce 2yos and they are of a wide
levels of ability. Not unusually he has two runners in this race and this
one has the 'preferred' jockey although may have a moderate draw.
In summary the pedigree of a 60s rated sprint 2yo at best although may
be close to that on debut given his light build. Profile [60]

Post Race |
Not a particularly taking type and a surprise to see him second favourite
and preferred to Green Park. Has grown well from the sales but not put
on muscle in front, narrow overall. On the positive side he's mature and
ready although not with strong scope to develop. Lacks quality overall.
4/1 and the stable preferred and ridden by R Hughes. Low drawn and went
on the detour to centre course and back with a group of five. Second best
of that group and ran roughly to expectations. Looked a mature type and
grown since sales but lacking quality. Estimate [57]

5f Auction |
Trainer has won the last three editions of this race. Runs two here and
the vibes were that he was a ready type and likely early winner on debut.
Ran roughly to expectations there but had an excuse given his draw.
Ought to show good improvement but trainer has a mixed record with runners
off only a 7 day break (or less) to STO. Profile [70]

May 9th: Windsor
5f Novice |
2/1f. Drawn 8 and broke well and came stands' side in a race run on soft
ground. Pressed the leader (who faded to 5th) and outpaced by Takoda inside
2f from the finish. Lost a length+ on that runner but plugged on and just
got back up late on. That race was run in a very slow time and turned into
a 'slog' and his experience and fitness enable him to get back at a runner
who had outpaced him. Estimate [66]
Did not have to show 5f pace to win LTO and has a different test here.
Has looked limited to being an average early season winner and limited
scope over 5f. Penalised 2lb for his win and receives 5lb from Lyrical
Blues. Ought to show small improvement. Profile [74]

May 18th: Goodwood
5f Listed |
Drifted from 2/1 to 5/2 as second favourite at Windsor. Tracked an average
pace by 1.5L at halfway and did quite well to get through to win from the
maiden King Malachi. Race run in an average time. Estimate [78]
In theory the chosen of five entries for the trainer with two of the other
entries winning lesser races two days ago. The form of the Windsor race
is not that strong although he did well to pick up the leader in a race
with an average pace. Finished behind Crocodile Bay when they both made
their debuts but that form cannot be taken literally because they ran very
different routes through the race.
Has kept on well in his races but has been outpaced to some extent by faster
2yos. Overall has looked just an average to useful early season 2yo and
although has developed well from the sales needs to continue that physical
development to rate more highly. Profile [79]

June 4th: Epsom
6f Listed |
7/1 fifth favourite at Goodwod in a muddling race where the field finished
in a bunch behind the clear winner. Broke well and 3rd after the first
furlong. Settled in same position at halfway less than a length off the
leader. The winner quickened 2L clear at this point and set off a scramble
amongst the other runner. He was outpaced and dropped back to 7th after
a bump from Puskas in a generally rough bunch. Plugged on again in the
uphill finish to 5th. Estimate [82]
Steps up to 6f but on a quick course. Form of his Goodwood race is muddling
with 5 horses finishing in a bunch. The only one to have run since was
well beaten in the National Stakes although had a slight excuse with the
draw. Profile [84]
