March 30th: Declared
Folkestone 5f Maiden |
Appears not to have gone to the sales.
Sire has had a decreasing number of runners but can get 5f winners, including
earlier in season. Has had four 2yos entered so far in 2005, three appear
to be owner breds and one at 5k gns which suggests he's hanging on but
getting moderate mares.
The dam was moderate and regressive over a range of distances (ran between
5-10f at 2yo) and produced one moderate runner from three foals.
Trainer does not target FTO wins and debut wins are usually by the best
runners. The earliest debuts 2002-4 have a variable record but fit the
same pattern with only useful runners with potential to develop winning
FTO.
Trainer has had two runners so far with moderate to average types and neither
has been competitive on debut (at 11/4f and 8/1).
Trainer has had a runner in this race in two of the last three seasons.
These were the moderate pair One More Hymn and Micky Thin.
In summary, a minor sprint 2yo pedigree, unlikely to be a winner on debut
by trainer methods unless useful+ and instead looks a similar type to the
trainers previous runners in the race. Fourth-ish. Estimate [57]

March 30th: Folkestone
Post Race |
Was 11/2 joint third favourite and led for 3f before a typical fade (and
possible ease by R Hughes) Similar run to Godfrey Street but with less
good result.
Trainer's debut runners seem to be slightly behind normal on limited evidence
so far or possible has not run a better type yet. A minor 60s rated type
on this run. Estimate [50]

April 11th: Declared
Lingfield 5f Maiden |
One of four runners in the race whose form is tied together by two maiden
races run in slowish & slow times on turf at Folkestone. This is a
different test.
The trainer is well behind normal schedule in 2005 and has not had a winner
yet. His only STO runner, untypically, showed no improvement. Would expect
a better performance here but hard to feel confident of a typical trainer
'different horse' STO effort. Still using Micky Thin (2003) as the comparison
horse. Profile [60]

April 11th: Lingfield
Post Race |
Improved from debut and again led for most of the race. Hung right in the
straight over to the stands' rail and briefly lost the lead before keeping
on. Profile [67]
|
April 23rd: Lingfield
5f Conditions |
Finished behind Red Emerald on debut on softer turf but trainer's runners
were in moderate form then. Moderate improvement in line with trainer's
methods and a risk because a repeat of his front running and hanging would
not allow him to recover in this tougher race. Profile [71]

May 16th: Bath
5f Novice |
Backed from 4/1 to 11/4 second favourite at Lingfield LTO. Led by just
over a length at halfway setting a quick pace in fast conditions. Headed
before the final furlong and the first three went away from him. Ran to
expectations in 4th. Estimate [70]
The subsequent form of the runners who finished around him confirms the
view that the rating is correct.
Receives 5lb from the other previous winner but that runner has a competent
5lb apprentice. Finished 1.5L behind WGM Turner's other solid 2yo winner
LTO which suggests he should be competitive with Lord Jack Flash. He has
front-run all three runs and not always finished the race off well and
this switch to turf on an uphill course may not be an advantage. He has
also hung right handed and that could be a problem here.
Fits the profile of early season winner with limited development that the
trainer has declared for the last two races. Profile [72]
