5f Auction |
Made lowish to middling price at Doncaster St Leger sales.
Reviewed at the sales and rated 67 and a medium size and build. Looked
extremely mature at the sales and very fit and could have gone straight
to the course from there. Limited scope to develop but looked like a just-add-water
early 2yo runner and definitely competitive.
By a second season sire that made a good start with 2yos notable for good
quality although an average number of winners. Got 5f winners but from
May onwards.
The dam was well bred but a moderate runner and has produced 3yo winners
in France & America.
Major trainer does not target FTO wins and they tend to come along with
better types. He has made a slow start to 2005 but has now had two winners
and the recent debuts have been solid while lacking the final 'edge'.
Trainer has won this race for the last three seasons with above average
2yos. He runs two here and the other is presumably preferred.
In summary likely to be a minor early winner and readier than the trainer's
average debut. Profile [61]

20/1 on debut. Received a slight bump at the start and got behind in a
race on soft with a solid pace. The runners went stands side on this course
indicating it was softer going. He kept on reasonably well to still be
going forward in 6th at the finish. That race turned into a 'staying' 5f
in the ground. Estimate [52]
The trainer has used this race for moderate to average types in recent
seasons and runs two here. This one is probably the first string and fits
the profile of the type he runs in the race. He looked to have limited
scope at the sales and will probably be close to his best here and the
question will be whether that is good enough. Profile [70]

5f Novice |
13/8f at Bath in a race run on very soft ground an produced the slowest
5f run there for many years. Led the field over to the stands' side and
travelled well past halfway. Faded notably from 1f out and appeared not
to stay 5f in the conditions on the uphill course. Estimate [41]
Given a break and first run on an easier 5f. Trainer has used the race
for moderate to average types (58-72 raters) in 2002 & 2004. He runs
two here and R Hughes rides this one. Probably has limited scope to develop
and likely to see his best here. Estimate [67 + 7 =74]
