May 21st: Haydock
6f Fillies' Maiden |
Made a good price at the Tattersalls part 1 sales but not high considering
she was Lot 23 in the Select Session. Many lots made 6 figures.
Stoutly bred sire has a moderate record with 2yos and most wins are over
7-8f in late season. Earlier debuts tend to be by better types who still
improve for 7f later or poor physical types that need to run early to compete.
Dam was a moderate runner but her pedigree has improved because two of
her half sisters had produced Group 1 winners (which got this one into
the Select Sale). She has produced an unraced 2yo to the same sire and
a 3yo winner in France.
Good trainer has a well above average record with 2yos. He looks to win
a maiden in the first two runs and then step the better 2yos up to conditions
races or higher. He assesses 2yos at home and debut runs used to be mostly
competent and places were common and the better 2yos could win on debut.
Trainer has had seven debut runs in 2005 with two solid second places,
one at 33/1. Two others were 4th & 5th in a fillies' 6f maiden at Newmarket
yesterday. The other three have drifted in the market and been comfortably
beaten including a volunteer third.
In summary likely to need 7f although probably a good sign she makes an
early debut. Profile [59]
