March 29th: Entered for
Yarmouth 5.2f
Auction (E) |
Made solid price for DSL sales. Slightly above trainer's normal range.
Has US pedigree and sire has had only 3 UK runners at 2yo in 2003-4. These
have shown best form over 6f including a FTO winner for SB Suroor.
Dam has more stout pedigree and developed to be above average winner in
US.
Trainer has moderate record with 2yos. Debuts, especially in early season
are normally uncompetitive, development runs and looking to peak on STO.
In summary an interesting US pedigree but not obviously suited to 5.2f
early. Trainer methods suggest will not be ready on debut. Gives extra
weight to all other entries other than Danjet because he was the highest
sales price. Profile [48]

March 29th:
Yarmouth 5.2f POST RACE |
Highest priced yearling in the field and from TV pictures looked bigger
and with more scope than the others.
Ran slightly freely and pressing leader until past halfway before fading
away in the last one furlong plus. Typical trainer debut in terms of final
performance but with some positive points and not the 'lost' debut he often
has. Trainer has poor overall record with 2yos but watch to see how this
one performs when switched to the all-weather. Estimate [47]

April 1st: Declared
for Lingfield 5f Auction |
The switch to the all-weather isn't a surprise but the break of only 4
days is. Gives 5 to 7lb to the other colts and 7lbs and more to the fillies
because he was the most expensive at auction.
Likely to show improved form but would expect this to be a development
run towards a small race at Southwell by normal trainer methods (including
that
of his runner of the race in 2003). Profile [60 - 7 = 53]

April 1st: Lingfield
Post Race |
Received some support from 7/1 to 5/1 and again ran freely and led (2 or
3 wide off the rail) before a solid fade in the straight. Despite the trainer's
poor record with 2yo wins he may be able to develop after a break to be
the small Southwell winner his trainer usually manages. Estimate [41]

May 2nd: Doncaster
5f Novice |
Has shown poor form but some natural pace in two early season runs close
together. Trainer does not always appear to plan his 2yos development well
and this one runs in a novice after a long break to 3TO. Trainer's 2yos
can develop and show their best form 3TO but this one has not really shown
enough in those early runs.
The trainer has run one other 2yo for the owner which has had 3 quick runs
and ran in a Novice race 3TO and competed reasonably well in a weak race.
Penalised 2lb compared to a newcomer colt. Profile [61 - 2 = 59]
