May 28th: Doncaster
6f Maiden |
Owner bred by 'Darley' and races for Godolphin.
By major US based sire who has a variable but overall just average record
with his British 2yos runners. Gets occasional 5f wins but runners better
for 6f+. Has a reasonable FTO win record.
Dam a Grade 3 2yo winner in the US and related to Graded race winners over
8f+. Produced two winner from her previous foals.
Third 2yo runner of the season for a good trainer with the best raw material
and resources available. Before 2004 he used to train only the occasional
2yo as Darley/Godolphin used D Loder for their 2yo training. In 2004 they
took the 2yo training 'in house' and Mr Suroor jumped into second place
in the individual 2yos run table with 91. Of those 48 won and the strike
rate was around 30%.
He targets maiden wins in the first two runs and the better 2yos step up
to high class races.
His first runners in 2004 were at a similar time of the season from the
York Dante meeting onward. He had 4 debuts in May and the two York debut
were beaten and won STO before the end of May. The other two debuts included
one FTO winner and one very disappointing filly who was an expensive US
2yo buy. Two of the four ran at Royal Ascot but were useful types rather
than the stable 'stars'.
The first runner for the stable looked an average filly at best and she
finished well beaten after losing ground at the start. The second won an
average Newmarket maiden in a very slow time after being allowed to set
an easy paced lead.
Trainer won this race in 2004 with a runner who had placed on debut at
York. K McEvoy rides.
In summary ought to suited to 6f and ok for late May start. Probably not
a 'star' but ought to be an above average winner. Two debuts for stable
have been inconclusive but not suggested the 2yos from the stable are 'wound
up'. Profile [73]
