J. Noseda More Than Ready Gypsy Monarch (Pedigree) Wavering Monarch 2yo $270,000 [CLD]

Racing Summary
May 30th: Sandown
5f Maiden Fillies'
  • Made a high price at the Calder breeze up (Florida) sales in the US. Notably higher than either of the prices she made as a yearling.
  • First British runner for a quite successful US based sire. He won over 4.5f to 6f at 2yo at minor stakes level. At 3yo he won Grade 1 and 2 races over 7f.
  • The dam was a 4-5yo turf winner in the US and related to a Grade 3 winning sprinter.
  • Good trainer has a well above average record with 2yos. He looks to win a maiden in the first two runs and then step the better 2yos up to conditions races or higher. He assesses 2yos at home and debut runs used to be mostly competent and places were common and the better 2yos could win on debut.
  • Trainer has had eight debut runs in 2005 with two solid second or third places, one at 33/1. Two others were 4th & 5th in a fillies' 6f maiden at Newmarket. The other three have drifted in the market and been comfortably beaten including a volunteer third.
  • In summary a good profile to be a useful 2yo sprinter and above the trainer's usual solid debut level.  Profile [74]
  • June 17th: York
    6f Fillies' Group 3
  • Paddock reviewed at Sandown and a surprise. Not a taking type overall. Medium size at most and average build. Slightly lengthy and hung up behind, just an average mover. Not race fit  and looking as though the day had got to her. Rated 74.
  • Vibes had been that she was useful and opened favourite but drifted to 2/1. Raced 2 off the rail at a meeting where that was a a notable advantage. Tracked the pace by 1.5L at halfway but slightly outpaced as the race quickened before keeping on again in the last half furlong to 3rd. Estimate [70]
  • Entered for the Queen Mary but runs in this 6f race instead which fits with the lack of pace shown at Sandown. Ought to be much readier here but did not look obviously superior there.  Profile [84]

    Post Race
  • Trainer in interview said that he'd been amazed at Sandown. He knew that this one was 5L better than Salut D'Amour who won the Listed 5f on the same card. When she got beaten in the Maiden he couldn't understand it. He said int he race she showed what she had done at home.
  • Worth noting a couple of points. As a physical specimen she isn't outstanding and it is interesting that her price went up by 175% from the yearling sales (in the US the horses stand still during the bidding) to the 2yo breeze up sale in February. She apparently did 2f in something like 10.7/11.x and she obviously moved well to make the price increase. One notable point about her geometry is the length through the loins area.
  • The second point is that she had 'gone inside' during the preliminaries and had let the occasion get to her and ran like she was two steps behind the plot throughout the race. Getting going late on over 5f when the race was over.
