Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
May 12th: York
6f Maiden
  • Made a good price at the Tattersalls part 1 sales.
  • Good sire tends to get 2yos that are physically very similar although often slightly small, compact, heavy & strong build and not particularly taking.
  • Sire had a remarkably good 2004 both for number of winners and quality and possibly reflecting the better mares he got after his good start at stud. He has a good record in getting 6f winners and ok from May onwards.
  • Dam was bred by the Oppenheimer family and retained. She showed moderate placed form at 3yo. Her previous foals have run at 2yo unlike herself and one won at 8f.
  • First 2yo runner of the season for a major trainer. He does not target debut wins and those he gets are usually with superior types and more likely later in the season. However, his first 2yo winner of the season has won in the last 2 seasons although the other earlier debuts have been more typical.
  • In summary likely to be a useful type although not fully wound up here and could lack some mental readiness. Would need to be a 'natural' to win here.  Profile [73]
  • May 28th: Doncaster
    6f Maiden
  • Backed from 7/1 to 4/1 at York in a race where a number were supported as the favourite drifted. Looked a different type than usual for the sire. Taller, leggier and slightly raw-boned. Looked notably mature. Race was run on soft ground and some of the field did not act on the ground. Settled towards the back of the group after 1F and moved right to the stands' rail side. Tracked an average pace by his group by 4L at halfway and got outpaced as the race quickened at halfway and the first 3 went clear. Just plugged on for 4th the wrong side of a 5L gap.  Estimate [57]
  • THe strength of the York maiden has looked suspect with 5 of the runners beaten since including the 2nd & 3rd. This one looked to lack the zip to be competitive and got outpaced. The trainer's first 7 debuts have included only one forward showing.
  • In previous seasons he has varied his strategy but the earliest batch of debuts usually includes a slight majority of later winners of varying quality.
  • Difficult to place.  Profile [70]
