Lingfield 5f (AW)
Conditions Race (D1) |
Reasonable sales price for TO2 buy in context of this race.
By second season sire that made a very good impression in 2004 with a good
set of sprint 2yos, including early 5f winners.
Dam has a more stout pedigree but has produced a sprinter to the sire Mukadammah.
Reviewed at sales and lacked size of sire's best types and slightly narrow
but a good mover in front. Lacked scope to develop but appealed as a possible
minor early winner.
Trainer targets 2yo racing and has a group ready early. These will be a
mix of abilities. The moderate runners will be close to their best on debut.
Trainer has entered 4 probably to ensure at least one runner.
In summary likely to be competitive for a minor win in early season and,
if professional, could be competitive for a place. Profile [61]

Kempton 5f
Maiden - (D2) |
Did not run in the Lingfield race either because not declared or balloted
out. The trainer had one runner from the four entries and that one won
well at 8/1 5th favourite.
The trainer has two entries here. He has had one moderate runner in the
race in the period 2002-4.
The debut win by Phantom Whisper at Lingfield suggests the trainer has
his string well forward in 2005 and will know how the two entries here
compare to that winner.

Folkestone 5f Maiden |
The trainer entered four 2yos for the first race of the season. Of those
one ran in the race and won probably rating in the 60s. Another (Makabul)
was entered with this one in a better maiden at Kempton and won it by 5
lengths rating around 78. Both were competent on debut.
This one is unlikely to be a 'Makabul' but given the trainer's record so
far and the competence they have shown on debut inclined to up his rating
although still within his range as assessed at the sales. Profile

The trainer has not had a runner in this race in 2002-4 but has used the
other early season 2yo race at the course to introduce the moderate Penel
and Colonel Bilko was 2nd at 2/1fav but well beaten.
The trainer who made his name with early 2yos had a poor start with them
in 2004 and a couple looked very inexperienced. Interesting to consider
whether the better start in 2005 is simply because of a better group of
2yos or because he's decided he needs to put on a better 'show' early?

Post Race |
Trainer has had his 2yos very ready and forward in 2005 and has a better
group than in 2004. In a slow race on soft this one showed slight inexperience
but ran to around expectations in second.
On sales review he should be able to rate just over 70. Interesting to
see how much the trainer's 2yos improve STO given their readiness on debut
in 2005. Estimate [63]

April 16th: Nottingham
5f Maiden |
Form of debut race looks solid although a slow race time so assume that
Salute Him showed good improvement when he was third this week. The trainer's
debuts have been readier than average in 2005.
Only one of his 2yos has run STO and showed solid improvement but that
was probably a better class runner than this one.
Expect a reasonable level of improvement given he was slightly inexperienced
on debut. Profile [72]

May 9th: Windsor
5f Novice |
Won comfortably at Nottingham in a slowish time and held off a newcomer
who had lost ground at the start. Pressed the pace for 3.5 furlong before
going on. The pair were clear. Estimate [64]
The form of his win looks limited with the runners behind the first two
having proved themselves moderate types since (with the exception of Sands
Crooner who ran for a trainer notable for poor debut runs). He won comfortably
but needs to improve to win. Penalised 7lb for his win and gives 5-7lbs
to the others, including previous winners. His sales review suggested he
had less scope than some of the others. Profile [75 - 5 = 70]

May 16th: Windsor
5f Conditions |
Drifted from 5/1 to 7/1 4th favourite of 5 here last week. Settled 3rd
and then 4th at halfway but only 1L off a solid but usable pace. Hung left
as he tried to quicken inside 2f from home (common for trainer's runners
to do this). Kept on quite well. Estimate [77]
Finished behind Green Pride last week but a similar performance giving
weight. That trainer has chosen Green Park to run here instead of that
runner. Only entry for his trainer who also has Phantom Whisper & Makabul
who have not been seen since early April.
His previous run here did not suggest he had great improvement still to
make. Profile [79]
