6f Maiden |
Made a notably high price at the Keeneland September sales in the US.
Exceptional sire is now deceased. Has a good record with 2yos but runners
tend to develop with time. He has not had a 2yo winner before June in Britain
2002-4. He has had two 5f debut runners so far in 2005 in Britain, one
for the same trainer. These have finished placed as favourites in Newmarket
maidens.
The dam won over 8f at 2yo and 10f at 3yo rating around 100. She then went
to the US and won Grade 1 9-10f turf races there (which are not as strong
in quality terms as in the major european companies).
Major Irish trainer has a very good record with 2yos and tends to target
strong debuts. In 2003-4 he has made 7 debut runs in Britain in six different
races. 5 of the 7 have been in May producing 2 wins (Evens & 10/1),
two places (3/1 & Evens) & one unplaced (9/2).
He has had one 2yo debut in Britain in 2005 who finished third, having
met trouble in running, as a strongly supported favourite.
In summary the usual conundrum with the trainer's UK runners. The instinctive
reaction is that he must be good and he's likely to be a short price favourite.
However, the trainer's record with British debuts in 2 wins from 7 races
in the last three years to date. The trainer ran just a useful type on
debut in this race in 2004. Profile [78]
