5f Maiden |
Made a good price at the Doncaster St Leger sales, much higher than the
previous yearlings from the dam and above the sire's average.
Reviewed at the sales and rated 66. He was small, heavily built and 'dumpy'
with it. He was lighter behind. He looked to need to develop well from
the sales to have a chance of rating 70+
Old sire has had long career producing ok sprint 2yos and they can win
over 5f in early season. Has not had a debut winner in 2002-4 though.
The dam has a moderate pedigree and has produced mainly poor to moderate
runners. However, she has produced one useful runner in the Brocklesby
winner Shuffling Kid who cost only 2k gns. He was a taller and more angular
type than this one.
Trainer had his first batch of 2yo runners (to April 2nd) more ready and
professional than any other trainer and they competed well producing 4
debut wins.
The debuts since then have been lesser types suggesting those first debuts
were carefully selected. They have all been competent and some have placed
without looking likely to win.
The trainer runs two here and this is the first string.
In summary you would have expected this 2yo to be one of the trainer's
early selected 2yo runners if he had shown strong ability. He may just
be less precocious than his pedigree but still a worry. Profile [60]

5f Auction |
6/1 3rd favourite on debut with Tous Les Deux strongly supported. A typical
debut from a non-early season 2yo for the trainer (the naturals will give
better debuts in early season). Slightly inexperienced overall and pressed
to be 3L off the good pace at halfway. Asked for an effort 2F out and made
a little progress and hanging left. Faded late in the race (as the winner
did). Just a standard debut and not with great promise. Estimate
[61]
The trainer has not had a winner other than with the original five that
made the early season debuts. The later debuts have looked less natural
and less competitive. Those that have run STO have shown minimal improvement.
His runners tend to need steps up in distance in later season to show more
improvement. Topweight in this auction and standard trainer STO improvement
to close to his best. Profile [69]

16/1 at Haydock in a moderate race where the pace makers on the far side
of the larger group probably went to quick and faded. He raced towards
the stands' side and ran a similar race to his debut. More than 2L off
the pace at halfway and made some progress as the pacemakers faded with
the eventual winner. Just plugging on into second and not showing real
5f pace. Estimate [66]
