Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
May 7th: Newmarket
5f Maiden Fillies'
  • Withdrawn from the Doncaster St Leger sales and probably owner-bred.
  • Until this season the sire had moderate record with 5f winners and 2yos tended to need time to develop. So far he has had 5f and 5.3f winners for M Channon although neither put up real 'speed' 5f performances. This is his fifth debut at 5f in 2005 (three of the previous four have been for M Channon).
  • The dam has an 8f+ pedigree and won over 8f in France. She has produced one winner, over 8f in France, with four previous foals.
  • Trainer has a moderate record overall with 2yos given the quality he usually has and mainly gets wins only with the very best of them. THe earliest debuts each season can include inexperienced runs although debuts from the end of May onwards tend to competent and the better types can win.
  • This is the trainer's second 2yo runner of the season and the first was unplaced here last week at 50/1.
  • The trainer has had his older horses very forward in 2005 and has also run them over the winter on the AW and in Dubai.
  • In summary a non 5f pedigree and the dam's record is not an encouragement. More likely to be an ordinary owner bred having a run locally than a better 2yo.  Profile [50]
  • May 20th: Goodwood
    6f Maiden Fillies
  • 14/1 6th favourite of 9 on debut. Broke well and tracked an average pace in 5th by 1L at halfway. Outpaced by the better types as that race quickened and plugged on in a group that finished close together. Estimate [55]
  • The subsequent run of the 6th from the Newmarket race - unplaced in an AW claimer after drifting in the market suggests the debut race was over-rated and a slow race which did not fully test the fillies. The 3rd from the race who was also outpaced and kept on better late was third in an average maiden on 4 days ago. Trainer's STO runners tend to improve around 8lb.  Profile [59]
  • June 1st: Nottingham
    5f Maiden Fillies'
  • 9/2 at Goodwood on softer ground after rain and a number of fillies did not act on it. Broke ok but moved to the rail and behind midfield after a furlong. Hampered as another filly moved to the rail across her. Lost momentum and her lack of pace then showed as she had to be driven to pick up again. Off the back of the group behind a solid pace for the conditions at halfway (more than 6L off the leader). No progress.  Estimate [20]
  • A poor run STO and possible excuses because of the ground and being hampered early in the race. However, she again looked to lack basic pace and not obviously suited to a faster 5f.  Profile [59]
