April 4th: Declared for
Yarmouth 5.2f Maiden |
Appears not to have gone to the sales.
By second season sire who made poor start with four minor sprint wins and
with many runners in sellers.
Dam was a selling level 5f 2yo and has produced one type in her own mould
(at best) from three previous foals.
Trainer has had few 2yos seen he regained his licence. Runners tend to
be below their best on debut and 'peak' STO. He trained the dam's only
winner - Hagley Park - at 2yo.
In summary the pedigree of a selling level sprint 2yo at best and unlikely
to be at his best on debut. Profile [50]

Post Race |
Runs for a trainer who is restarting after an enforced break from training.
His only 2yo runner since returning was well below final form on debut
(similar to his previous record). So a slight surprise to see this runner
backed from 8/1 to 13/2 3rd favourite.
Had the advantage of missing (not being able to follow?) the too fast pace
set on the rail and plugged on for third towards the stands' rail and doing
best of those on that part of the course. Probably only needed to run to
profile to get third in a slow and 'upside-down' race. Would expect him
to develop from this on trainer's methods. Estimate [51]

5f M (C&G) |
The form of his debut race 3rd looked muddling at the time in a slowish
race but looks better now. The winner competed well in a conditions race
here and the well beaten favourite (set too fast a pace and faded) has
won a weak race at Beverley. So mixed messages about the value of that
run.
However, ran to expectations on debut and hints that he may be a better
type
than the dam has previously produced. Should show solid improvement from
the debut run. Profile [64]

Post Race |
Had shown more than his trainer's usual debut 2yos at Yarmouth and had
received some support there. Drifted from 11/2 to 6/1 as there was support
for other runners but still received some support himself. Broke well and
assisted with pacemaking in line-of-three with the first two placers in
the race. Outpaced 2f out as the race quickened and dropped back with the
inexperienced runners and just plugging on. Only improved slightly from
debut and out of his depth with the first three here (for example) on the
way he dropped back. Estimate [56]

5f Maiden |
Hints on both his previous runs that the trainer thought he had reasonable
ability but has been outpaced 2f from home in both races and just plugged
on. Stays at 5f but on a stiffer course and probably trying to find an
'easier' race in the north. Profile [62]
