Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
April 23rd: Leicester
5f Maiden
  • Sold for above average price at the Doncaster St Leger sales.
  • Minor sire has had decreasing number of 2yos as the numbers of mares he gets has dropped. Capable of getting precocious 5f 2yos and sometimes useful (notably from this dam).
  • Dam was an average 5f 2yo winner. She has visited the same sire regularly and produced two 90+ rated sprint 2yos by him.
  • New trainer has taken out a licence since his father retired in February. His father now works as his assistant.
  • He has had three runners so far in 2005 and all have got behind in their races although one (the most recent) showed some ability to get back into the race.
  • In summary a good pedigree and sales review to be a 75-85 rated sprint 2yo. However his trainer's first debut runs have been mixed on the only competitive runner seemed to get into the race by his own 'exuberance' rather than being professional. Would expect to see good promise on debut but on trainer's form so far may not be fully competitive here.  Profile [63]
  • April 23rd: Leicester
    Post Race
  • Paddock review rating 76. Hasn't grown since the sales and the description is very similar to that one. Just about the heaviest built in the group and fit enough although can tighten up. Looks just the type on muscle bulk that will end up looking like a hard trained 'boxer' after mid season in the typical manner of the trainer's father's methods. Slight niggle that he might be too compact and slightly too small but a solid sprinter that should be able to rate just over 80.
  • Received some later each-way support from 8/1 to 13/2 as third favourite. His trainer has had three previous debut runs most with market support and they have been either moderate (not competitive) and/or inexperienced (losing ground at start).
  • In line with his trainer's record he was left in the stalls and lost 5 lengths. Similar to Silver Crest he then showed natural pace to make up the ground quickly and be tracking the leaders running slightly freely at halfway. He made an effort to move to second and chase the winner from inside 2f out before slightly fading late on.
  • He had not grown from the sales and was not quite so taking as he had been there. He looked capable of muscling up into a sprinter who ought to be able to rate 80+ around mid-season. Estimate [56]
  • May 20th: Haydock
    5f Auction
  • Made a very promising debut and better in light of the later form of the other runners since that race. The trainer has only had one STO runner from the early batch of runners who mostly botched the start. That runner had a 'car park' draw at Chester and showed little improvement.
  • Good improvement with here as joint topweight.  Profile [79]
  • July 2nd: Nottingham
    5f Maiden
  • 3/1f at Haydock in a moderate to average Auction race. The field ran in two groups in effect with a group going a strong pace forming on the far side of the centre and the leaders towards the stands' side 2-3L down at halfway. He travelled best in the race in second place in the strong pace group. In the final furlong the strong group faded and the outpaced runners on the stands side closed through to fill 4 of the first 5 places. He did best of those that had run close to the pace in thrid although he did fade a little.  Estimate [65]
  • J. Fretwell (owner) has said in interview since that thye were disappointed with his run and thought he was going to win by 3L with the way he travelled. They have thought about putting blinkers on thinking that perhaps he didn't put it all in. However, he finished the interview by saying they still thought a lot of him and recommended people to take note of him for the Redcar Trophy.
  • Has been given a break and trainer's runners (including the early debuts who ran variably) are in more consistent form now. Has a strong chance in this maiden if he can show expected improvement.  Profile [75]
