5f Conditions - Brocklesby
at Doncaster |
Made a good price for the DSL sales.
By First Season Sire that won over 6f in first half of its 2yo season.
Sire made good impression at sales and likely to get some early sprint
winners.
The sire has has made a good start with two winners from three runners.
One a minor winner with a runner that cost 800 gns the other with a type
that looked likely to come into his own over 7f and has already won over
5f.
Dam unraced and related to sprint winners.
Good trainer that supports 2yo racing. His debut runners tend to be competent
and the FTO wins come along with better runners who can win on better ability.
However, he tends to choose his earliest debut runners well and most are
competitive to place and win if they are useful+.
He has had one runner in the period 2002-4 who finished second in a below
average race in 2003 and might have won but for being taken on a tour of
the course by her jockey (who rides this one). This runner has a slightly
better profile than that runner.
In summary nearly all positives with the sales price allaying some doubts
over the dam. The start made by the sire with his runners and this one
chosen as the early debut by a trainer that is a good judge suggests a
very strong contender in this race. Profile [77]

Post Race |
Weak in the market at 12/1 and some very mild each-way support to get to
10/1 which suggested the trainer would be happy with a solid run on debut
but did not expect to win. He got a slightly slow break and had to be driven
at times to pick up. He was taken over to the far rail after halfway which
may not have been the best ground (although the subject of draw bias here
in April is a tricky one).
Ran a creditable debut but without ever showing the zip and readiness to
suggest he's superior. The trainer has run two in this race in 2001 and
2003 and those two finished third and second before winning comfortably
STO. Neither of those two won again in the season although both got OR
figures above 80. On the evidence of this run a similar progression for
this one would be expected as a minimum. Estimate [61]

Ran a acceptable although uncompetitive debut in the Brocklesby. The form
of that race has looked moderate and the 2nd & 5th-8th have been beaten
subsequently. His trainer's earliest debut runners have looked behind his
normal level and the first STO showed good improvement to win comfortably
in a similar race 4 days ago.
Ought to show good improvement and has a usable draw in 5 of 16 with 4
newcomers drawn inside him. Profile [74]
