April 16th: Nottingham
5f Maiden |
Made a good price at the Goffs sales.
By a second season sire that made a good start with 2yos notable for good
quality although an average number of winners. Got 5f winners but from
May onwards.
Dam was well related and has a mixed pedigree. She has produced two 2yo
winners.
Trainer has settled into his normal pattern of debut runners being competent
and able to place on debut without winning unless targeted debuts for specific
owners.
In summary a good pedigree for an average+ 6f winner in the season. Unlikely
to be wound up on debut to compete with the best of those with previous
runs. Profile [61]

April 26th: Bath
5f Auction |
15/2 on debut and led to past halfway before being easily outpaced by the
first two. Hard driven to plug on in the last furlong to keep third.
Estimate [52]
Likely to show solid improvement from debut although did not look above
average there. This is the first test of the form of that (muddling) race.
Penalised 4lb for sales price. Profile [67 - 4 = 63]

June 3rd: Thirsk
5f Maiden |
7/1 at Bath in a race run on GS in a slowish time where the field came
stands' side. Led the race for a furlong then pressed the leader close
up until past halfway. Faded 1f out to fifth. Estimate [62]
Given a long break and stays at 5f. Trainer has a filly running for the
owner in the other 2yo race on the card. The form of his 5th STO looks
ok given the subsequent performances of the horses around him. Is he here
to get his third run for a handicap mark before he steps up to 6f+?

June 13th: Thirsk
7f Maiden - Div I |
9/4 at Thirsk over 5f LTO in a race with a good pace where the first three
favourites hooked up in a line early and turned the race into a time trial
with the weaker runners off the back early. Half a length of the pace at
halfway he dropped back to 3rd and 2L off the lead and niggled along against
two 5f types travelling ok. Responded in the last furlong to close up to
less than a length off the leader at the finish. Estimate
[72]
Steps up 2f in one go after showing some pace over 5f but always being
outpaced at some point.
Trainer won a division of the race with the useful 2yo and later Group
3 winner Naahy. He had run twice over 5f and been placed showing 60s form.
He won this race comfortably and developed to rate late 80s over 7f. The
trainer is notably for trying 2yos over 5f that others would not.
This runner has shown at least comparable form to Naahy in his 5f tries.
If he can stay the 7f on this easy course his basic pace will be a big
advantage. Profile [73]
