June 20th: Nottingham
6f Maiden |
Bred by 'Lawn Stud' and owned by J. R-Watson.
Sixth 2yo runner for a first season sire that did not race at 2yo and is
by a non precocious sire himself.
Made a solid impression at the sales. B2yoR rated 15 of the yearlings and
they were a variable group but with the better types tending to make good
prices. His first four runners were poor but he had a good debut
winner over 6f yesterday.
Dam unraced at 2yo and won over 8f on her 3yo debut. Developed with racing
to be a useful+ handicapper and won the Cambridgeshire.
Trainer uses common strategy of trying to win a maiden in the first two
runs with 2yos and then step the better types up to Conditions+ races.
The debuts tend to be competent and to a good level within the 2yos ability.
In 2004 they seemed to have their runners slightly more ready on debut
and got two early FTO wins.
Of the previous debuts in 2005 one drifted in the market and showed some
inexperience and finished 4th. Another lost four lengths at the start
and also looked inexperienced but stayed on to win a moderate race. The
other two have been poor runs.
