June 4th: Doncaster
6f Auction |
Retained for a good price at the Doncaster St Leger sales but less bid
for him than as a foal.
First season sire made good impression at sales and yearlings sold well.
He won over 7f at 2yo but reverted to a top class sprinter at 3yo.
His early runners over 5f have competed just averagely well with places
but no wins. He had his first win with a debut runner over 6f in a moderate
to average Ayr maiden.
Older dam was a winner in the US. She has a patchy stud record with her
best foal one of the earliest and a sprint winner in the US (also the dam
of recent useful filly Menhoubah). Since then she has produced two minor
winners but none since her 1997 foal.
Stable has run twelve 2yos in 2003-4. These have mostly been owner breds
along with a few bought at sales. In 2003 the two sales purchases were
breeze up buys with sprint 2yo pedigrees.
Stable does not target 2yo racing and most runners have had only one or
two runs.
The FTO runs are in the second half of the season and usually September-October.
All debut runs have been at a low level (rated below 60) but runners are
probably competent on debut and close to their best rating.
The only winner made her debut on October 15th at Redcar and won a weak
Ayr maiden before season end. These were the only runs north of Nottingham.
In spite of the poor level of debut performance three of the FTO SPs were
at relatively short prices (11/2, 9/1 and 11/1). Only the later season
winner, who placed on debut at 9/1, showed signs of ability in line with
the FTO SPs.
This is a notably early debut for him.
In summary a solid pedigree which could produce a 70+ 6f 2yo. Interesting
to see how prominent he is given the early debut. Profile [50]
