DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
July 3rd: Brighton
7f Auction
  • Made a lowish price at Tattersalls Ireland sales after making a lower one in his first sale as a yearling. Second topweight in this lower class Auction race.
  • First season sire won over 6-7f at 2yo. His 13 runners in 2005 have competed moderately. Only two have placed on debut (showing poor to moderate form) and his only win has been in a 7f seller.
  • Dam a useful 8f 2yo winner in Ireland made a good start to her stud career  with two winners, one won an Irish Group 3 race at 4yo. But her last winner was her 1995 foal and her recent runners have been moderate placers at best and all sold for more than this one.
  • Trainer used to have his own small stable but was appointed as private trainer in owner J. Fretwell's new, purpose built stables in 2004.  When the trainer had his own stables the better 2yos used to rate around 60-65 on debut and improve 14lbs STO.
  • He has developed an interesting record with his 2yo debuts in 2005. The 16 debuts have produced 5 wins (4/1, 8/1, 14/,1 2 x 16/1) and 2 places (9/1 & 10/1). So blindly backing his debut runners would have produced a big profit. However the debut winners do not appear to have been 'wound up' and have won while recording ratings in the 60s. The SPs also show that for the most part these have not been targeted strong debuts and runners are still showing solid improvement STO.
  • The 5 debuts between June 15th-21st produced 3 wins and a second place with the latest runner a winner here. There has been a break of two weeks until this debut.
  • In summary a number of negatives with the sire & dam's record and the moderate sales price. The trainer does not appear to be targeting strong debuts despite his record and is probably getting most debut wins just with competent runs. Although this is a moderate race he would probably need to have 70+ ability to win on debut.  Profile [57 + 2 = 59]
