March 19th: Entered for -
Lingfield 5f (AW)
Conditions Race (D1) |
Solid price for the TO2 sales.
By second season sire that made an acceptable start with the 2004 2yos.
These included 5f winners out of stout dams and two of those winners with
this trainer. However he did not have any runners until May 2nd and no
winner until May 27 in 2004.
Dam was a winner in (It) and has produced moderate runners and no winner
with three previous foals.
Reviewed at the TO2 sales and a small, compact and heavy type. A slightly
odd shape overall but helped by having a little range to the walk. Rated
62 and not an obvious 2yo winner unless can find a moderate early race.
Trainer does not target FTO wins and debut wins are usually by the best
runners. The earliest debuts 2002-4 have a variable record but fit the
same pattern with only useful runners with potential to develop winning
FTO.
Trainer has entries in this race for the first time.
In summary a limited physical type and will probably need the run to develop
to best rating STO. Profile [53]

March 20th: Post Race |
Forecast favourite and started as 11/4 favourite although not strongly
supported.
Another good example of a typical trainer early debut and 'others' expecting
too much because he is a "major player" in punditspeak.
Still small but has improved from the sales and has put on muscle and the
most fluent mover in the field at walk. Relaxed on debut and not fully
ready to compete.
Travelled ok in behind leaders to straight but not much happening when
asked for effort into straight. Jockey probably took opportunity of slight
bump from Danjet to ease off and he's better than the finishing position.
His size will limit his ability but ought to be minor 60s rating winner.

March 28th: General Update |
Was entered in the seller at Warwick on March 29th but not declared.
[Aside] Report in racing forum stated that there had been 'whispers' for
this one at Cheltenham before he ran at Lingfield and that he was 'sharp'.
Another lesson for believing what you see and not what you hear.

April 1st: Declared
for Lingfield 5f Auction |
Trainer runners so far have been uncompetitive and/or fading in the last
furlong after being prominent. He probably hasn't run a useful one yet.
This one was entered for the seller at Warwick earlier in the week. Receives
5lb from the topweight colt but gives 2lb to the other colts because of
his sales price.
The classic trainer method is to target STO wins with these types and to
choose appropriate races. Ought to improve from debut and reach close to
his best here and then struggle afterwards. Profile [65 - 2 = 63]

April 21st: Bath
5f Claimer |
Showed no improvement on his second run at Lingfield and was again slightly
outpaced downhill and found no response in the straight. Drops to claimer
having been entered in a seller previously. Receives 10lb from the topweight
because of the relatively low claiming price he is in for. Profile [45
+ 10 = 55]

April 26th: Warwick
5f Seller |
Showed similar level of form and a weak finish at Bath in finishing fourth.
Estimate [45]
Drops to a seller here and he has been entered in these before. Blinkers
for the first time. Profile [48]
