April 7th: Declared for
Leicester 5f Maiden |
Made solid price as Doncaster St Leger sales. Well above average for his
sire.
Second runner for first season sire who himself only cost 2.8k gns at the
sales. He has an 'all speed' pedigree and was a tough sprint 2yo although
below pattern race class. He developed over a long career to win a Group
2 6f sprint at 6yo.
The sire has a moderate pedigree and none of his siblings have rated over
70 and his latest half-brother sold for 1.5k gns at the 2004 sales.
Sire had first runner yesterday and that runner finished an ok third in
a weak race running for the trainer (R. Millman) who has his 2yos most
ready so far in 2005.
Dam was average 5f 2yo winner and has produced sprint winners although
most of moderate to average ability.
Trainer usually assesses 2yos at home and can get debut winners later in
the season. The earliest debuts in 2003-4 have been competent and usually
within 10lbs of their best although lacking the debut competitiveness of
later targeted debuts.
Trainer has had one runner so far in 2005 who showed inexperience before
plugging on for a volunteer third.
In summary a mixed story. The price given the pedigree suggests a good
physical type. The trainer's debut runners are usually competent although
the earliest runners tend only to place at best. Profile [60]

Post Race |
Paddock rated 70?. Did not look mentally nor physically ready. Has some
size to develop but needs to tighten up and be mentally more professional.
Looked an average winner at best and ought to be able to rate just over
70 if he develops.
Interesting to see him in relation to his trainer's record. His trainer
normally has runners fit and competent on debut. However, in recent seasons
the earliest debuts, while often placing, have not really been competitive
and have often not developed (e.g. Favouring in 2004, Little Jimbob in
2003).
This runner did not look physically nor mentally ready to run to his best.
In a moderate group he was about the biggest and has some prospects to
develop but he needs to.
Drifted from 5/2jf to 100/30 and ran a moderate race in a slow race, sitting
in midfield and fading back with the moderate types in the last furlong.
Has the physical set-up to rate around 70 but needs to tighten up and develop
physically and grow up mentally. Estimate [46]

May 20th: Haydock
5f Auction |
Given a long break from a poor debut in a moderate race when he wasn't
physically or mentally ready to compete. Will need to have developed well
to compete here and trainer's earlier debuts in previous seasons have tended
not to show this improvement. Profile [60 + 2 = 62]
