May 2nd: Newcastle
5f Auction |
Made acceptable price at the Tattersalls Ireland sales. The most expensive
in the race and penalised 6lb for the sales price.
First season sire made 6f May debut at 2yo and superior 6-7f runner. Made
solid impression at the sales and yearlings sold well.
B2yoR rated 32 of his yearlings and they were a solid group if lacking
real stars.
Sire has had 14 runners already with two winners, one on debut in a moderate
race at Edinburgh two days ago.
Old dam has produced 6 winners, mostly abroad.
Trainer has a variable record with 2yos and had his best season by a long
way in 2004 when he had a good group. Runners tend to be competent on debut
and with the better 2yos in 2003-4 he has managed to get FTO wins in weaker
northern races with runners rated between 65-72.
This is his fourth runner of 2005 and he had had 2 debut winners by this
date in 2004. The first two runners this season have produced uncompetitive
debuts overall at 5/1 and 7/1. The third was 5th in a big field at 9/1
without looking competitive to win.
In summary an acceptable pedigree to produce a competitive sprint 2yo at
moderate to average level. Trainer does not appear to have his 2yos well
forward in 2005 and this runner carries the maximum penalty. Profile
