July 7th: Folkestone
7f Maiden |
Resold for a lowish price after making a low one when first sold at the
Goffs sales.
Third season sire made average start with his 2yos in 2003 but had a poor
season with less runners and quality in 2004. He only ever won a 6f himself
and his better types in 2003 were 6f winners. He has had two 5f winners
(one shown better from over 6f) and three successful over 7f in 2005.
Dam has a sprint pedigree and won over 5f at 2yo. She has not produced
a winner with three prvious foals.
Trainer used to have his own small stable but was appointed as private
trainer in owner J. Fretwell's new, purpose built stables in 2004.
When the trainer had his own stables the better 2yos used to rate around
60-65 on debut and improve 14lbs STO.
He has developed an interesting record with his 2yo debuts in 2005. The
17 debuts have produced 5 wins (4/1, 8/1, 14/,1 2 x 16/1) and 2 places
(9/1 & 10/1). So blindly backing his debut runners would have produced
a big profit. However the debut winners do not appear to have been 'wound
up' and have won while recording ratings in the 60s. The SPs also show
that for the most part these have not been targeted strong debuts and runners
are still showing solid improvement STO.
The 5 debuts between June 15th-21st produced 3 wins and a second place
with the latest runner a winner here. There was a break of two weeks until
a poor debut 4 days ago.
In summary not a good sign he starts at 7f and unlikely to be one of the
stronger debuts for the trainer & owner. Profile [56]
