Lingfield 5f (AW)
Conditions Race (D1) |
Slightly below average price for DSL sales and below the price for his
full brother at the same sales.
Average sire who gets 5f sprint 2yos, some precocious and occasionally
better than useful. Has a poor record with FTO runners.
Dam had sprint/miler pedigree but was slow and never won while racing from
5f up to two miles. Produced a minor 6f 2yo winner to the same sire in
2004.
Trainer is notable for having his runners ready for early season debuts
and professional on debut. He has entered three for this race and all were
bought for prices above his normal range.
Trainer had 33/1 2nd in this race in 2004 with cheap buy.
In summary, the trainer has entered three very interesting 2yos for a race
of this quality and this probably just the best for this race although
with limited scope to develop. Profile [63]

Did not run in the Lingfield race either because not declared or balloted
out. The trainer had the second in that race with a very fit runner.

POST RACE |
Similar type to the trainer's Lionaire although slightly smaller and lighter.
Had some sprinter 'snap' in movement behind.
Ought to be able to rate around 70 early season but build suggests he wont
develop. Paddock Rating 66.
Appeared to be stable second string on jockeys and slightly longer SP than
Lionaire.
Neither of trainer's runners got competitive in the early stages of the
race. This one kept on in the last furlong past faders (made him look better)
to get second. Estimate [63]

5f Conditions - Brocklesby
at Doncaster |
Runs 5 days after debut.
Trainer runs two and this one the second string on jockeys.
Ought to be more professional and be capable of running close to his best.
Being a smallish son of Mind Games lacking scope to develop its probably
'now or never' given an early season 5f and some easier ground. Profile

Post Race |
Was the trainer's second string on jockeys but attracted support and went
off 7/2jf with the trainer's other runner. He had looked small and limited
to 60s rating on paddock review and lacking scope to develop.
Seemed to have every chance here and ran stands' side. Faded as the better
horses went away in the last furlong. Looks limited to 60s rating and probably
need to win early to mid season. Estimate [56]

April 11th: Declared for
Southwell 5f Auction |
Has looked limited to 60s rating and lacking scope but with his relative
fitness ought to be able to produce that level of form here.
Gives weight to all but one of the other runners because of his relatively
expensive sales price.
Another test of the Brocklesby Form where he finished 6th and in a normal
year that form level would be enough to win a race of this type on his
next run. The eight from the Brocklesby has been beaten on its next run
and the 7th runs at Lingfield in a race earlier than this one.

6f Novice |
8/11f at Southwell. Tracked Countrywide Belle by 2L at halfway and outpaced
by her before plugging on in the last furlong. Estimate [61]
Returns after a 2 month break and steps up to 6f. Trainer's other early
debuts have mostly competed poorly recently and she seemd to have limited
scope to develop. Estimate [62 + 7 = 69]
