Lingfield 5f Maiden |
Possibly did not go to the sales.
Sire has an acceptable record with 2yos. Can get early 5f winners and has
record is better in that area for having trainer M Channon supporting him.
Dam cost only 2.8k gns at sales and was a minor sprint winner rating in
the low 60s at best.
Younger trainer is still developing his style. He decided in 2002 to target
2yo racing and brought in an agent to help with the sales buys. This lead
to an excellent season in 2003 including Group 1 winner with owner bred
Milk It Mick. 2004 was, as would be expected, less good and the stable
seemed to have illness problems to add to a less good group.
Along with the change in buying policy in 2002 he also said that he felt
he had been too obsessed with fitness and intended to make less ready debut.
In line with this he has had 6 FTO winners from 71 2yos in 2003-4 and these
have tended to be the best 2yos.
The very earliest runners in 2004 were more competitive as a group (making
places and the superior Berkhamsted winning) than in 2003 when none of
the early runners placed (including Milk It Mick).
Trainer has had one runner so far in 2005 who was midfield in a similar
race here two days ago.
In summary the pedigree of a minor 55-62 type winner at best and likely
not to be at full readiness on debut. Profile [52]

9/1 here on debut and ran a solid debut in third in a race with a sound
pace. Was four lengths clear of the third and further ahead of the poor
types. Estimate [57]
Trainer has runs two 2yos so far in 2005 and both made their debuts here
last week. The first of these who was less professional on debut than this
one won STO at Windsor on Monday.
Expect good improvement and sets the standard for Musical Romance to try
to reach. Profile [68]

Disappointed as 4/5f at Lingfield, getting outpaced early and having top
be driven throughout the race. Used her experience to rail well to the
straight to be able to get to second from the newcomers. Estimate [59]
Probably too much expected of her at Lingfield STO and probably lacked
scope to develop. Receives 5lb from the others as the only filly in the
race. In theory her experience should make her competitive with the newcomers
but she may find this track quick for her as well. Profile [60

Steady around 8/1 5th favourite. Looked fit on her third and a quite well
muscled 'little sprinter' with a little length. Slightly short with a deep
front but lighter build and still 'up' behind. The bigger point to note
is that her attitude looked to limit her a bit, she has a 'mean' demeanour
and flashed her tail in the last furlong. She had to be driven throughout
at Lingfield and on this evidence that was caused as much by needing to
be encouraged as being outpaced.
Broke well and settled 3rd tracking a solid pace. Left in second at halfway
less than a length off the pacemaking Don Peter. Plugged on best of the
pace from 1f out but easily left behind by the better types. She's capable
of a little better than this but needs to improve her attitude. Estimate

Has looked to have enough pace for a minor 5f win but has shown some attitude
and probably has not realised her full potential. Profile [67]
