Retained for a low price in the context of the Tattersalls part 1 sales.
Reviewed at the sales and rated 68 with an above average chance of being
a competitive 2yo. He was small and short but stockily built and a ready
type. He should be able to be a 70s rated sprint winner but lacking scope
to develop through the season.
Third season sire has a just reaching average record with 2yos. He gets
winners at all distances at about equal rates (possibly suggesting the
dam's input is important). He can get odd earlyish 5f winners.
Dam showed form from 7-12f and was beat at 3yo. Her better foals have been
7f+ types.
Trainer has not targeted FTO wins in recent seasons and early debuts can
often be inexperienced. Only the very best runners compete well on debut.
He has had one inexperienced debut run in 2005 and one solid 3rd place
in yesterday's Maiden FIllies' race at the course.
He seems to have developed a strategy of running his most natural 2yo sprint
types in the maidens at this meeting. In 2004 he won the fillies' race
with the useful Siena Gold and natural sprinter Alpaga Le Jomage was third
in this race. In 2005 he has had a similar type finish third in the fillies'
race.
In summary the pedigree of a 2yo that will need further but on physical
review looked like a smallish sprinter and trainer has shows signs of choosing
natural 2yo types for the maidens at the course. Ought to be more competent
than the trainer's usual on debut if he follows the same mould. Profile

16/1 7th favourite. He was drawn on the outside and taken slightly right-handed
by Hunter Street at the start. Recovered to sit with the pacemaking group
and three lengths off the leaders at halfway. Soon outpaced and faded with
a group of others as the race quickened at 2f out. Looked slightly inexperienced
and jockey was not hard with him.
The trainer has introduced four runners in the maidens at this meeting
in the last two seasons and this one showed the least readiness and close
to a typical trainer debut. On this type of debut he is an average winner
at best in line with his sales review. Estimate [49]

A moderate debut at Newmarket and not promising anything better than an
average winner. Trainer has had a poor STO run from the other maiden debut
runner from that meeting.
Trainer has run subsequent winners who were on debut in this race previously.
