Lingfield 5f (AW)
Conditions Race (D1) |
Sire has good record with 2yos and ok for producing 5f and precocious runners.
Dam was unraced as a 2yo and won over 12f at 3yo so a mixed pedigree although
the dam provides ok quality in terms of this race.
Trainer does not target FTO wins and those that win on debut are normally
his best runners (or targeted debuts for Sheikh Mohammed).
In summary this is likely to be a runner in the Evanesce mould from 2004,
although possibly with a little more quality. Evanesce was second on debut
at Lingfield (AW) in March but in a lesser race with a 3lb apprentice riding.

Kempton 5f
Maiden - (D2) |
Did not run in the Lingfield race either because not declared or balloted
out.
She is also declared for the Musselburgh 5f on March 27th which would appear
to be more her standard.
Trainer has two entries and the other should be first string and more likely
to run.

Also entered for Kempton on previous day but trainer usually introduces
an above average runner in that race.

POST RACE |
Attracted some support at a steady 4/1.
This was the trainer's second runner and performed entirely differently
to his first runner who looked clueless. This runner was very professional,
broke well, travelled well in second pressing the leader and went on as
the leader faded.
On TV evidence looked to be a mature type with some range, notably better
than the underpowered and gawky Evanesce to which the profile compared
him to.
This maturity and professionalism enabled him to perform above expectations
by around 10lbs. Another plus for his sire's very good record with 2yos.

April 9th: Declared for
Newcastle 5f Novice |
Runs 13 days after debut win and penalised 7lbs for that run. Has a 3lb
apprentice riding.
Trainer's debut runners have produced very variable performances in 2005.
This was the most professional and won relatively comfortably at Musselburgh.
The second (Soto in a minor AW race), third (Amber Glory in a minor AW
race) and fourth (Dusty City in a muddling Doncaster auction race) have
won since. The level of the subsequent confirm that it was a solid run
on debut without suggesting it was under-rated.
Although he gave a professional run on debut his trainer's runners usually
show good improvement to their STO runs. The use of a 3lb apprentice suggests
the trainer may not think he's useful. Profile [74 - 7 = 67]

April 9th: Newcastle
Post Race |
Led for over 3 furlongs before getting tired and not staying in a race
run more than 7 seconds above standard on soft ground, uphill, into a headwind.
Was 8-11f. Estimate [49]

April 12th: Declared for
Newmarket 5f Conditions |
Runs only 3 days after a disappointing effort as strong favourite in testing
ground and conditions at Newcastle. Trainer presumably either feels he
was unsuited to the conditions and deserves his chance here or lacks scope
and needs to compete early.
Trainer runners both of his previous winners and this has the probable
second jockey riding. Expect a better performance but downgrade profile.
