April 15th :- |
Declared for 5f AW maiden at Kempton.
Trainer does not tend to target strong debuts and the wins tend to come
along with his best types (Red Power, Oh Dara & Overstayed for example
in the last three years). His earliest runners each season are a mix of
abilities and as many as 7 of the 11 juveniles he has debuted before the
end of April (2003-5) have been non-winners in the season.
Major sire has made a remarkably good start at stud. His record with 2yos
is mixed and the majority of his winners have been in later season over
7-8f, as you would expect. Given his very good record overall the lack
of precocious 5f winners is an irrelevance.
He has not had a 2yo winner before June in first two season and only one
at 5f with Kings Quay who showed much better form over 7f (trainer, you've
guessed it, Richard Hannon).
The dam is stoutly bred and won over 10f at 3yo. She has visited some of
the top Coolmore stallions with her first two foals were by Danehill and
they showed moderate to average form levels over 6-8f.
In summary an intruiging question is why this one is making it's debut
over 5f in early April? The pedigree says 7-8f in later season at 2yo and
8f+ at 3yo with a fair chance of developing with age. Her picture from
the sales shows a good size, mature head, acceptable depth in front although
less powerful behind (in line with her middle distance pedigree). She appears
to be walking short behind but it is not obvious from the picture why she
was relatively cheap? The sire's sales average was more than 100,000gns
and a guinea is around 30% more than the Euros she was sold in.
