June 9th SUMMING UP

A maiden with an interesting 'shape' to it and with two, well drawn, newcomers,
at longer prices, who could cause trouble for the more obvious strong contenders.
Three Decades has already run three times at 5f despite not looking
to have the pace to compete at average level over that distance. She has
twice run solidly on the polytrack and put up her best performance last
time. In that Lingfield event Bridge It Jo forced a strong pace, blew up,
and allowed the less quick 'closers' to come through and Three Decades
kept on well enough without really picking up. She has run poorly on soft
turf in between so this 6f on the AW is a reasonable place for her. However,
she gives the impression of lacking real pace, even over this longer trip,
and would need a 'last filly standing' slog to the line to look a comfortable
winner. She is vulnerable if there is something a bit faster and more manoeuvrable
in the field, especially if the pace is average. Stall 10 doesn't look
an ideal place for her either.
La Quinta cost 150,000gns and got a rating of 72 while not looking
superior given the high price. An average size build and shape, well put
together but not outstanding. Her trainer does not target strong debuts
and tends to send his best types to Newmarket to start their careers. He
doesn't use this course very often for debuts - just two poor FTOs in the
last two years. She'd need to be above average to win here first time and
overall the profile suggests just an average debut which would be 50s rating.
The trainer's debut runners which make the first 4 are normally in the
first 4 from early in the race while the unplaced debuts are rarely in
the first 6. So, from stall 8, we may know quite quickly how good and/or
'a natural' La Quinta is.
The interest in the race comes from two runners who have the profile to
make a good debut and are drawn in stalls 1 & 2. Well placed if they
have the zip and nous to use it. Falimar cost 28,000gns and received
a rating of 70. An early to mid-season 2yo lacking longer term scope (not
surprisingly given she is by Fasliyev). However, with enough physical potential
to be interesting in this type of race if she is with a trainer who 'gets
them ready' FTO. Mrs Camacho doesn't run a lot of 2yos so we have limited
information but the hints are she does. The five 2yos she has run in the
period 2002-5 have produced one debut winner (at 16/1) and two places (at
50/1 & 14/1). If Falimar has had a similar preparation it wouldn't
be a surprise to see her competing for a win here.
Pineapple Poll is related to two winners for the same trainer, one
average and the other poor. The better one made the first four on debut
which is typical for his 2yos which have some ability. She did not go to
the sales so paddock review will be required to judge her potential for
the day.
There is promise of just minor winners, at best, amongst the other runners.
One item to note is a new trainer - M. Botti - presumably with Italian
connections who runs his first 2yo in Britain with Baldovina who
has a 7f+ pedigree but with some quality.
