Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
March 24th:
  • Declared for the 8 runner Brocklesby.
  • Trainer typically gets his string ready for the start of the season and often gets early wins and places. In 2006 so far he has declared 5 horses for the three Lingfield AW races which have already taken place. His three runners in the first two races (one non-runner) produced three unplaced runs at longish odds. Given his normal methods this raised the question of whether he did not have his string as ready as usual or whether all three were moderate horses.
  • His fifth runner - Bazroy - won yesterday by 5 lengths and the trainer said afterwards that he had expected him to win and he would "..have gone home and shot the others..." if he hadn't. Which suggests he has his runners as forward as usual and the first three were just of lesser ability.
  • His recent record with Brocklesby runners is Diva Star 9th in 2002 (25/1) and two runners in 2005 when the race was the tenth of the season. They were Danjet (2nd at 7/2) and The London Gang (6th at 7/2) with both having already run placed on debut.
  • First season sire by a staying sire (In The Wings) and a later season 8f winner at 2yo.
  • Dam well related but by a moderate sire (who got his chance at stud because of his pedigree rather than his racecourse performance). She showed poor form an her one previous runner showed moderate form at 2yo although making a solid price at the sales.
  • April 3rd:-
  • Declared for 5f AW Lingfield maiden.
  • In a thin field for the Brocklesby he received some each-way support as third favourite down to 4/1. Race run in a slow time on soft ground and lost 5 lengths at the start. Just over 2 lengths behind an average pace at halfway and some response as the winner made his effort coming to the last 2 furlongs. Plugged on acceptably but left impression he lacked rel 5f pace even in that slow race.
  • Ok ize although a slightly taller & narrow type and trainer typical in that way.
