Racing Summary
DATE PROFILE/COMMENTS
April 15th :-
  • Declared for Class 4 AW maiden at Kempton.
  • Trainer usually introduces a 2yo in these early season Kempton maidens that wll be a solid winner during the season. In 2002 the early runners were Bravo Ragasso (won 5/4) & Mardoof (2nd at 4/9fav); 2003 saw later Group 2 placed Holborn win at 1/2fav & Compton's Eleven a non runner; in 2004 later Listed winner Bibury Flyer was 2nd at 3/1; and in 2005 later good winners Puskas (5/2) & Grantley Adams (4/1) were both unplaced.
  • He has had a fairly typical start to the season in terms of results but he has had a number of 2yos run poorly this week, both on debut and on later runs. It may be that we have mostly seen just moderate runners from him to date but the level of performance this last week has been enough to raise a question over the wellbeing of his 2yos at present.
  • He has had one debut winner and four places from seven runners to date.
  • Sire has got one winner before May in his first two seasons ans ok record at 5f although no winner at that distance in 2005. Dam by stout sire showed no form when tried over 5-7f at 2yo and needed 10f at 3-4yo to show average form.
  • April 29th:-
  • 3TO run in 5f maiden at Leicester.
  • Paddock reviewed on debut at Kempton and was the best type in the group and fitted well with the expectation that the trainer chooses a better, development, type for these early Kempton maidens. Mostly positives in physical review, good size and build, muscular on his quarters, likeable 'diamond' geometry in front, enough length to improve for 6f+ and a good, rangy mover.
  • He looked inexperienced in the race and in particular on the bend into the straight where he was a little awkward and ran widest. The longish straight allowed him to get going and he did well to close on the leaders and passing better placed runners. A very good debut given his mental readiness and that he probably isn't a 5f type. He seems likely to develop to rate high 80s and probably into the 90s by official ratings and likely to be tried in better races.
  • His lack of natural 5f pace seemed to be exposed STO at Newbury where he tried to chase a 'natural' in Cav Okay and probably paid for his efforts. Even so his later race fade was poor and raised questions over how good he is - especially at 5f. Is the trainer trying to get a 5f win before putting him away for later season?
  • The trainer has had a number of 2yos show lesser form on S/3TO runs in 2006.
