March 16th :-
  • Declared for the first race of the season and with champion Jockey J. Spencer booked.
  • Small trainer and has had three to five 2yo runners in the seasons 2002-5. The 2yos are mostly sales purchases between 3k to 12.5k. 
  • He targets 2yo racing and many of his 2yos run to 10TO or more although with a poor set of 2yos in 2005 he had few runs.
  • Debut runs tend to be around 14-20lbs below the runners best rating. In 2003 and 2004 he has had a runner in the first 2yo race of the season (Lingfield AW) and both have been backed to relatively short SPs. Both have shown some inexperience and been below their best. 
  • Runners tend to show their best rating STO and then often show consistent form in many runs afterwards. The two wins in 2003-4 have both come through sheer persistence on the 8th and 12th runs. The winners were the horses that made their debuts in the March Lingfield race in each season. 
  • Sire has had a small number of British 2yos to date and no runner before May and no win before June. His only 5f winner has been the filly Oh Dara in 2004 who won her debut race on June 30th.
  • Dam well related and an older winner in America. Her previous foal did not run at 2yo.

  • Declared for 5f turf maiden at Folkestone 10 days after debut third.
  • Paddock report and notes from March 18th = "Zafonical Storm a medium size in the group but a taller, slightly narrow type and a negative in that he is a weak mover behind. He ran to expectations and on trainer methods should show some improvement to his second run but not a horse to follow in the longer term."
