| Richard Hannon has finally run some typical debuts after wins
with his first three runners up to Bonnie Charlie beating Miss Chamanda
here last week. He again runs two with Hughes on Heliodor and Moore
on Buddy Marvellous (another son of Redback and the 'Rules' about
Hannon buying his yearlings applying). Until last year either jockey might
end up on the better 2yo but with Moore now committed to Stoute, and Hughes
released from his K. Abdulla retainer, you would think that Hughes would
have the pick. It worked that way last week with Hughes on the winner and
Moore on the bumbling son of Redback in 8th. Both have just okish pedigrees
and the market may be some help if Heliodor is being supported at 4/1 or
less. If one, presumably Heliodor, is an above average 2yo he might have
too much pace for the leggy filly late in the race but on balance more
likely to be a 2nd-4th first run outcome.

| As the bulk of the field drifted left following the winner in
the race the exception was Heliodor
who had been held up by jockey Hughes from a wide draw and dropped behind
the field onto the rail. Six lengths off the leaders at halfway the jockey
asked him to show him what he could do a furlong and a half out and he
closed pretty well through the large gap that had opened up along the stands'
rail. Still going forward at the line and another pleasing intro. In paddock
review a typical Hannon type and shape and lacking the extra build some
of the better ones have. Like the third probably around an 80-85ish OR
rater and a good contender next time out.

| The maidens at Windsor this year have been solid quality and
Hannon's Heliodor was given a hold up ride behind the solid filly
Miss Chamanda. Six lengths off the leader at halfway he finished strongly
up the stands' rail as the rest of the field hung away from it late on.
Jockey Richard Hughes tends to ride the stable's better types close to
the pace on their debuts to get them involved (Rebecca De Winter was another
example earlier this week) but seemed confident in this one.
The 'Racing Post' ran a 'Stable Tour' piece with Hannon this week and in
2yo terms it was a disappointment. Here's a trainer who will run 100+ juveniles
this year and has a good idea about the ability of a lot of them already.
Only 14 got a mention so you would presume they include a lot of the better
ones but most of those that have run weren't covered. Heliodor was an exception
and got a strong positive from the trainer with the view that they would
hope he would be up to running well in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot.
As with Barry Hills the fact that the trainer runs him here following in
the line of Redback, Tizzy May & Sonny Red suggests he is high up in
their team of horses.

| It's often a good idea for Paddock Reviewers not to read
'Stable Tours' and the like because the activity depends upon the person
having confidence in their own opinion. As soon as you start trying to
factor in external viewpoints problems start to creep in. In the Hannon
'Stable Tour' recently he said that Heliodor was likely to be his
'Coventry' horse and the fact he ran in this maiden suggested he was highly
ranked. He's a classic Hannon, deep chested, 'build' 2yo (Picture).
A similar idea to Desire To Excel. His attitude on the day could be classed
as laid-back or a bit sloppy and immature depending upon your call. The
Hannon 2yos tend to be more at the 'sheep' end but even so Heliodor didn't
look to be at the top of his physical cycle on the day. As covered above
he ran an 'ok' but flat race and you have to think he's better than he
showed.
