05 Apr | Raimond Ridge made his debut at Folkestone behind
Doughnut & Riflessione only 4 days ago but this quick turn-out is not
untypical of his trainer's methods. Mr Channon has often run a good one
in that race in recent years with Moon At Midnight (2002, dual winner),
Seneschal (2003, 6 length winner STO), Salute Him (2005, dual winner) &
Silver Guest (2007, irritating placer but useful & 5th in the Norfolk
Stakes at Royal Ascot). The one exception was in 2006 with the minor nursery
(OR65) and claimer winner Goose Green for the same owners. Typically for
the Channon runner in the Folkestone races Raimond Ridge was inexperienced
and lost ground at the start. He showed some progress later in the race
before stalling entering the final furlong.

14 Apr | We know switch to deja vu mode with the Channon and Hannon runners. The first ran Barraland on debut in the race in 2007 for the same owners as Raimond Ridge. This combination of connections are geared up to run limited 2yos a double figure number of times a season and get rid of them if necessary. Raimond Ridge is already on his 3rd outing and we shall probably be seeing a lot more of him in nurseries because he hasn't looked a better type in two goes. He showed a bit of progress at the 2f pole behind Riflessione but that petered out before the last furlong and he was allowed to drift back. He ran better at Newcastle when he finished 2nd behind the Brocklesby 9th with the 3rd & 12th from that even just behind him. As with Mr Moore what you see from a Channon 2yo STO is normally a good indicator of what they are capable of unless they have abnormal physical improvement to make (or an excuse). On what he's shown he looks more a 70-75 nursery type like Barraland and also is a sitting target for a better newcomer. |
20 Apr | It is the first time you have seen Channon's Raimond Ridge and he made his debut (behind Riflessione) in a race that the trainer usually puts a good one into. He's clearly not that - Picture - and the smaller, narrow bodied end of Namid's progeny. He also not particularly forward in condition and his trainer is top of the list of underperformers with 2yos to date (see below). He scores moderately and provides a big clue that the Saxford Novice race at Newcastle was sub-standard and raises doubts over what Doughnut achieved when she beat Riflessione & him at Folkestone. |
