| Trainer John Spearing has targeted the Bath meeting (the day
before this race in 2008) to introduce his early usable 2yos. He had a
targeted seller winner there in 2006 and would probably have won the same
race in 2007 with a newcomer but for it having to be left a non-runner.
He also introduced a later nursery winner on the same card. Leaving aside
the FTO seller win in each of the last two seasons his debut runners do
not normally compete well. He used to develop horses with racing and had
a good record of winning outside seller company with horses who broke their
maiden in sellers for him.
Either way his filly Soul Sista is by a sire who has got the odd
precocious 5f winner in each of his first 3 seasons although. The mare
was limited quality but a competent winner rating around OR50 in her older
years. Not a profile to trouble the places here and interesting she didn't
start in yesterday's Bath seller to some extent. Of minor interest to see
where she can develop to but presumably up to winning a seller somewhere
down the line.

| Soul
Sista was a typical early seller class winner for John Spearing
on profile. She's small, notably narrow and lack build although on the
plus side she's a good mover despite being 'up behind'. She looked the
usable seller type in review and it was a little surprising she managed
to push Northern Tour at all given the physical mismatch it looked and
her slow start. It raises questions over the strength of the form although
the trainer has started getting the best out of these limited fillies early
in the last two seasons and she may well be the same. OR58-67 type probably.
It has been noted before that two sons of Indian Ridge - Namid & Compton
Place - are sires both tend to get bigger 2yos who can be lengthy and a
'boaty' with it. A good number of these can't move well enough to use the
strength they have because of the overall set-up. When you get a bigger
one that 'works' well mechanically you have a good one. Another problem
with this 'sizeable boat' type is that they can be lightly built and lack
the power to push themselves along even if he mechanics is usable.

| More low quality fare at Beverley on the same day with
two divisions of the auction, again on slow ground and with a lot of incompetence
on show. The rail proved an advantage but setting the pace a disadvantage
with both front-runners fading badly. The second division looked garbage
and run in a slower time. The limited Soul Sista didn't have to run to
her Folkestone debut to win comfortably from what looks a poor group.
