Muraweg (JHM Gosden, June to August). A trainer with whom
it is difficult to separate out the debut winners from the dross in this
three month period. But, the sheer quality of runners in the yard mean
that the debut winners will come along. This has led to a large profit
in the June to August period backing all of his debuts. Supporting them
all removes the bafflement when runners with similar profiles and SPs run
wildly different races. Raven's Pass won on debut at 20/1 last year with
an irregular jockey on and at least second dtring of three stables runners
in the race, for example.

His first debut runner in the period on Monday finished 2nd at Windsor
(Green Beret) but was clearly not a better type and not very ready to compete.
He managed second because it was such a weak race ultimately and that event
is one to be wary of.

Muraweg is one of two Hamdan Al Maktoum runners in the race and the first
string with Richard Hills riding (Ed Dunlop runs the home bred Andhaar
for the same owner). This is the first 7f maiden of the season and the
trainer has a good record with 7f debuts in the last two year (9-45 at
a 20% strike rate). He has won this particular maiden with debut runners
in 2004 (useful Jalamid) and 2006 (the very useful Raincoat). Muraweg has
a mixed pedigree and the dam has produced winners from 5f up to middle
distances. A solid profile for the race and a possibility that he might
be a higher class runner who can compete for the win FTO.
