Love Pegasus & Matraash (Edinburgh 4:20, M Johnston,
7f Debuts). Trainer has had 5 winners from 27 qualifiers to date. SPs have
been 3/1, 7/1, 10/1, 11/1 & 14/1 to give a profit of 23 points from
blindly backing all his runners. This isn't a surprise to a large extent
since his record in each of the three years 2005-7 has been profits exceeding
25 points so he is having a below average year to date by that standard.
Lots of lesser types have been beaten at shorter SPs to suggest the 'Market'
has little clue what to expect other than the occasional 'Full Hype' future
Group runner who tend to come along at specific. i.e. identifiable in advance,
times of the season.

Mr Johnston is one of a small range (3-5 trainers at most) who get regular
8f debut winners and has shown a profit in 2 of the last three seasons
for backing all his debuts at that range. Remember that 8f debuts wins
are relatively rare and almost always indicate a better type (OR80+ at
least) and often include real high class ones. His record in 2008 so far
is 3 debut successes from 13 goes with Alcalde (won a Conditions race STO
this week), Quai D'Orsay (runs in the Group 3 at Ascot today) & Mastery
(impressive winner at Nottingham earlier in the week) showing up the 'Better
Class' rule. The wins have been at 3/1, 9/2 & 15/2 to show a 5 point
profit to date.

Mr Johnston doesn't retain a jockey and says he uses those that are loyal
to the stable and he feels are in good form. Matraash is ridden by Royston
Ffrench who is regularly used by the trainer and Love Pegasus by Jimmy
Quinn who would be an occasional booking for the stable.
