SUMMARY
2Times at course over 6f seem to have got faster in last, say, 3 seasons. Pre-2006 sub 72s times rare & indicate very high class horse or peculiar conditions. A time like this race would mean a solid, usable, pace. Best times down to 70.9s for late OR80s types last 2 years recorded & 71.5 on GS(?) for Later Listed victor. Less watering than the 'old days' when the public lawns used to look parched while the track was soaking wet on hot days?
This looked a slower pace, poss average, & a sprint in the final 2f which did not fully test the field. FOS go to lead on rail as others held & not make effort until just inside 2F out. Despite this advantage unable to match Navajo Chief at level weights & the much smaller Nadeen made 1L+ giving weight. FOS better for stronger pace?
Alan Jarvis said after Little Perisher's win he had a good set of, cheap, 2yos this year. NChief prob bigger than FOS & competent enough FTO. Trainer's methods & choice of races can be odd but watch for what else he may have this season.
Nadeen run well giving weight making ground against pace.
Antonius Moris look out of sorts overall. Sweating at start, niggled to get going & head held to right through race. Always looking wary of going forward. Had chance to take gap between rail & FOS late on & bottle it, switch left & just roll around. Better than this? Sire's 2yos better early runs?
BLady narrow bodied & predictably outpaced by sprint set-up. Need stiffer test.
