2As often on the Ascot straight course the bias & effects not easy to judge. The Stands' rail looked an advantage in going terms but in this race & at least one later the rail runner was worn down late by a horse a few widths out. Simple race shape with 5 horses running in lanes mostly and no pack ever formed & no horse with cover behind another. Frat. & WOTM race widest around 8-10 widths off rail. LP mostly in lane 3. ARoad start in lane 5 but go over to rail after Hf. RJazz start Lane 5 but goover to Frat & WOTM early. Jk saw that pair losing ground after halfway & cross back to join with ARoad. Frat & WOTM both a bit free and led early to after halfway. Headed soon after by ARoad and driven. No response and both lose more ground in the last 1F. Running on slower ground? WOTM had his head up again - either just his shape or he disliked going? ARoad impressed by how maturely he accepted being held up this time. He led & made and effort 2f out on rail and 1L clear. RJazz did not, poss could not, respond immediately and looked in trouble. Poss a bit outpaced or running on deader ground. Once he gathered he progressed to pass ARoad late looking better for 6f. Just an ok pace and solid Conditions form. LPer ran 7lbs above Profile. |
