SUMMARY
2Heavy rain begin as meeting start and continue. Misty and poor visibility. Ground changed from Good to Soft after first race but times overall suggest GS. Clerk of Course said he probably made a mistake in placing too much credence on what the jockeys said rather than going with his own feeling that the ground was still GS.
Rails bias seemed changed by going and centre track seemed ok, at least, and perhaps better with rain. The first two home here raced centre track and 1st 4 drawn 6-11 range.
Worth noting just how chewed up the rails side ground had probably got. A low angle shot of the runners going back into the chute to the unsaddling area made the ground look like a rough field. Consider the effect of the rain on the chewed up wings of the straight compared to the little used centre strip.
