2Both the factors of prominent racing AND running the rail proved big advantages at the meeting. Low drawn horses with easy leads on rail very hard to catch. Effort by wider draw to get to lead on rail or setting too strong a pace meant leader might get one pass them in straight. But, typically this would be a horse behind them who had run the rail and not one who had run in lane 2 or 3 throughout. SR & AR break best and form up on rail and lane 1 (AR) early and that was the race story written inside the first 1f. They race in a pair through to the line with SR holding on well. The advantage of the rail run offsetting the 6lbs he gave to AR to some extent. Similar form level to their best shown so far & AR look a little mulish overall Neither look up to solid Norfolk Stakes class and Listed to mid-season before dropping down. Other helped leaders with awkward breaks & making strong efforts wide of rail (Frat & MP). KoL rear on break & held up and run a bit freely. TF & GE helped by running rail for most of race to pick up places in straight but making no ground on leading two. MP added not handling bends well to perform below her best & can do better as can KoL on simpler track. Others look early season nippy ones. |
