2Odd break from the stalls with a Reverse Echelon. Runners closer to the rail mostly break slowly and only exception was Fast Elaine who was immediately hauled back. Wide draw runners broke better as a group and had an easy time crossing over to form the leaders. Worth noting for Draw bias input. Also worth noting that both of the Bill Turner managed competent breaks (add in an easy lead at a crawl and you have your 100/1 3rd but recording a worthless rating). Mr Turner is notable for drilling his 2yos at home and hence the professionalism. Horses aren't stupid and if you train them properly they can learn to break competently. The majority of slow starts are lack of training at home. Other notable point was the very slow pace and therefore a very poor rating level. Difficult race to make ground in and a pointless one to look for 'Eyecatchers' in. But anyway, for an interest see how the 4 who made places but did not place do in future. AZ for a trainer with a poor record with 2yos. PS the exception to the rule with a Bill Turner 2yo bungling the break. Some late progress unasked but trainers later season debuts rarely include season winners. Radsky supported and given a 'Today' ride in the straight to make ground. Anything there? Pollan Bay runs for a Trainer/Owner pair to take notice of. But little apparent promise here. |
